A La Mode Cutie Quilt -- Making Waves

Do you ever make a quilt just because you want to try a new-to-you type of machine quilting?  I do this ALL THE TIME, and this quilt exists for that exact reason.

A La Mode is one of my easiest Cutie Patterns.  Choose any Cutie Pack (16 fat eighths), add 1 1/4 yards of background fabric, and get stitching this 48"x48" cutie!  The binding is cut from the fat eighths, too.  As Cutie Pattern designers, we pride ourselves on designing quilts with little fabric waste, and this one is super-duper efficient!

I made this A La Mode from some treasured Fig Tree Fabrics fat eighths that are very, Very, VERY old!  {I might hoard Fig Tree Fabrics; don't judge me.)  I wanted to quilt long waves vertically on this quilting using a ruler against the foot of my home sewing machine.

I pulled out my Handi Quilter Wave E Template and used the 6" wave side to quilt this quilt.

I'm really happy with the look of these waves on the quilt.

I need to mention that this quilt took about an hour to machine quilt, and it was SUPER FUN, TOO!

Have you ever stitched using a ruler along the edge of your home sewing machine foot?  If you haven't and would like some basic instruction on the technique, check out my Machine Quilting with Rulers online class through Annie's Catalog.

Stay tuned; I working on a "Quilting with Rulers Master Class," so there will be many more samples showing up in my blog, social media feed, and newsletter!
