A La Mode Cutie Quilt -- Making Waves

A La Mode Cutie Quilt -- Making Waves

Do you ever make a quilt just because you want to try a new-to-you type of machine quilting?  I do this ALL THE TIME, and this quilt exists for that exact reason. A La Mode is one of my easiest Cutie Patterns.  Choose any Cutie Pack (16 fat eighths), add 1 1/4 yards of background fabric, and get stitching this 48"x48" cutie!  The binding is cut from the fat eighths, too.  As Cutie Pattern designers, we pride ourselves on designing quilts with little fabric waste, and this one is super-duper efficient! I made this A La Mode from some treasured Fig...

Decorating with Quilts and Stitchery

I've been enjoying decorating my newly rebuilt home (tree + house + pandemic = 18 month headache!) and am adding a few touches of Americana to my home for America's birthday! While it's been too hot to use a quilt when sleeping, I added an old patriotic quilt to our bed.  The pattern is from Thimbleberries (I think) but the fabric is not (I'm certain!). I finished my latest Stitching Joy wool applique flipcard in time for the 4thof July! My son enjoys woodworking and made me a quilt ladder for my birthday.  I LOVE IT!  I added my Forever in...

July Color Blocks Quilt -- She Sells Seashells

July Color Blocks Quilt -- She Sells Seashells

As I was writing July's Color Blocks pattern, I loved the name She Sells Seashells... until I tried to say it out loud!  How many times can you repeat this before your tongue is terribly twisted? I chose blue/green watery colors for my blocks to remind me of beaches.  I can't wait for another beach vacation! If you haven't already purchased the Color Blocks Right Triangle Tool, you might want it for this quilt.  There are 36 blocks to piece and trim! The machine quilting lesson this month is how to quilt free-motion echoed shells. Try out this forgiving and fun...

Due North Cutie Quilt using Orleans fabric

Due North Cutie Quilt using Orleans fabric

My Due North Cutie pattern is so quick and fun to piece and quilt! The flying geese were made using a Cutie Pack (16 fat eighths) of Orleans fabric with added background, sashing, and border fabric.  I have kits available, too! Students have been asking, "But how did you quilt this?!?!"  Well.... Using white Konfetti cotton thread in the needle and white DecoBob in the bobbin, I meandered in the background of the flying geese. If you are not a confident meanderer, I highly recommend taking my First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting online class.  Hint: I teach meandering in Lesson Seven....
